Last Summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to speak at my church’s women’s retreat. Each session started with these words:
I want you to know that things are not as they seem. There is a Larger Story where God is the Author and He is the Hero. It is a story where we matter more than we realize and there is a Villain. And, yes, someday there will even be a happily ever after.
This week, a friend showed me a creative, somewhat disturbing music video. It’s about the Villain of our story and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. The video was created by The Arrows; it’s posted below. I’m certain it will make you think so please share your thoughts. Also, since it does have some brief startling images, you probably should preview it before showing kids.
Here’s the chorus just in case you missed it:
And still I don’t tell you
About the God in heaven
Who loves you
Who yearns for you
No I don’t tell you
About the freedom of forgiveness and truth
Why would I tell you?
Why would I tell you the truth?
So, what do you think?

I think the creators of this video have the correct name; this video hit me like arrows. It was a graphic reminder of state of this world–often sad, depressing, vile, painful, ugly, perverted… I could go on and on. It leaves a foul taste in my mouth. And then I am reminded that there is a greater story, one that I could never conceive, but one that I am such a part of that it's impossible to dismiss. I am a sinner, saved by grace–His grace and I am so thankful that he is the Great Author of my life.
