Our Soul Belongs to Someone Else

Worship.

I read this quote over at The Write Practice:

“The world has already been created and will survive without the help of man. The world has our hands, but our soul belongs to Someone Else.”

-Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel

A Few Quotes

Starry Night Over the Rhone

Starry Night Over the Rhone

“The answer is always in the entire story, not a piece of it.”
— Jim Harrison

“I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity.”
- Gilda Radner

“Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see.”
- C.S. Lewis

Every Story has a Villain

Last Summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to speak at my church’s women’s retreat. Each session started with these words:

I want you to know that things are not as they seem. There is a Larger Story where God is the Author and He is the Hero. It is a story where we matter more than we realize and there is a Villain. And, yes, someday there will even be a happily ever after.

This week, a friend showed me a creative, somewhat disturbing music video. It’s about the Villain of our story and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. The video was created by  The Arrows; it’s posted below. I’m certain it will make you think so please share your thoughts.  Also,  since it does have some brief startling images, you probably should preview it before showing kids.

Here’s the chorus just in case you missed it:

And still I don’t tell you
About the God in heaven
Who loves you
Who yearns for you
No I don’t tell you
About the freedom of forgiveness and truth
Why would I tell you?
Why would I tell you the truth?

So, what do you think?
