Recently, I went to Oregon to photograph my friends folks. Don & Roberta have been married for over 60 years. Their time together has been marked by relationship – relationship to God first and then loving people. They have a beautiful strong family with 6 kids and lots of grandchildren. Together they have served in Thailand as missionaries, in ministry and teaching.
Together they have had much joy and faced heartache as well. In these recent years, they are facing together Don’s battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Now, unable to be at home due to dementia and physical ailments, Don lives in nursing care facility. Daily Roberta spends several hours there to be with him and care for his needs. Their commitment to the Lord and each other reminds me of what marriage is all about.

The hands photo is my favorite. I love the old pics too. I think it’s good for kids to see these and realize that “old people” don’t start out old! LOL I think it gives them perspective on planning and dreaming in their own life as well as respect for older people, which is something we greatly lack in America!
