Two Bridges

July 27, 2008

I took this on one of our many recent smoke filled days this summer. The smoke was so thick that evening it was like a low fog settling in the hills.

Two historic Folsom bridges: the old truss bridge (1893) and the “newer” Rainbow Bridge (1917)

Andrew — Beautiful scene and I love the way you have colored it. Nice composition and use of the reflections. Peaceful image, exactly what I needed, thank you. :)   ( July 31, 2008 @ 5:00 pm )

Jenny — Thank you, Andrew!   ( August 2, 2008 @ 10:10 pm )

Deborah — Hi Jenny, Nice shot of the two Folsom bridges and the water reflections! It never occurred to me to go down there to catch some pics.   ( August 3, 2008 @ 6:07 pm )

Path to Heaven

July 24, 2008

“..Of course! The path to heaven
doesn’t lie down in flat miles.
It’s in the imagination
with which you perceive
this world,
and the gestures
with which you honor it…”
Mary Oliver, poet

I really have no idea what this quote means but for some reason it really moves me. What do you think?

Sam (yor kid) — I love the those flowers and their colors mom! You need to show me how you make the background blurry.   ( July 25, 2008 @ 2:33 pm )

doodah — Mark Buchanan actually used that quote in his book _The Rest of God_ to explain repentance. I don't want to put the big giant quote in here, but if you ever poke around his book, you'll see his interpretation. Interesting. I very first encountered this poet in his book, and then suddenly she was everywhere. Love the photo!   ( July 30, 2008 @ 8:43 pm )

Jenny — @Sam - thank you sweeting :P @ Doodah - thank you for helping me out with this one;)! I am reading the book but this just went over my head.   ( August 5, 2008 @ 6:21 pm )

A Seagull, Solitude and Sabbath

July 23, 2008

Today I took a walk on the beach…enjoyed the solitude…

Seagull, Solitude & Sabbath

“In a culture where busyness is a fetish and stillness is lazyness, rest is sloth. But without rest, we miss the rest of God: the rest he invites us to enter more fully so that we might know him more deeply. ‘Be still and know that I am God.’ Some knowing is never pursued, only received. And for that, you need to be still.” Mark Buchanan, The Rest of God: Restoring Your Soul by Restoring Sabbath

Andy — Even the gull looks relaxed!   ( July 25, 2008 @ 3:48 am )

doodah — Beautiful photo - very warm and peaceful. And, of course, I love the quote. ;) Glad you got some sabbath in. :)   ( July 30, 2008 @ 8:44 pm )

Jenny — @Andy - thanks for visiting! I guess the seagull was enjoying his "alone time" as well ;) @Doodah - thank you! It was a wonderful and refreshing time. You encouraged that!   ( August 5, 2008 @ 6:24 pm )

Hurry means…

July 22, 2008

“Hurry means that we gather impressions but have no experiences, that we collect acquaintances but make no friends, that we attend meetings but experience no encounter. We must recover eternity if we are to find time, and eternity is what Jesus came to restore. For without it, there can be no charity.” – D. T. Niles

What do you think?

Here’s an “Unhurried Moment”…children seem to know how to live in the moment. This little guy is watching his family fly kites – he’s just taking it all in.

lynette yoes — Look forward to your impressions when you finish reading "Rest of God". Been thinking of buying it. Being unhurried, soaking up the moments like a sponge & using my senses (see today's post)are the three things that make up my days during this time of rest.   ( July 22, 2008 @ 11:30 am )
